Welcome to CTC Tayside's Home Page!

You are invited to take part in our events. See Cycling rides for programme and below for monthly rides from Dundee which take place on the last Saturday of the month. Starting place is usually either Discovery Point or Camperdown Park depending on the route being taken. These are sociable rides at a comfortable pace, ie not fast. If you prefer a faster pace please contact the Secretary and offer to lead one.

Members and non-members are welcome to join our cycle rides. Non-members can take part in 5 events before becoming a member.

    Tay Valley Circular via Gauldry, Newburgh (short break), Bridge of Earn (lunch), on to Perth. Return via Bonhard, Balbeggie, Knapp, Longforgan

    First Aid 'Heartstart' Emergency Life Support  Training
    Thursday 4 March 2010 at the Coffee Exchange, Exchange Street, Dundee at 7pm. Next door to the Bike Worx cycle shop. Refreshments afterwards.

     2-hour course which concentrates on being able to perform Emergency Life Support, a set of actions needed to keep someone alive until
    professional help arrives, gives a casualty the best possible chance of survival. This is run by the British Heart Foundation. I have booked the Coffee Exchange from 6 pm so you are welcome to come and have a bite to eat beforehand.

    Please book with me if you are interested.

    I may be able to get the Bike Worx to stay open a bit later if there was a demand.

    Halloween ride to AGM
    Meet at Camperdown Park gates (entrance by cinema), Dundee for 10:00 start for ride to Meigle.
    Free lunch afterwards for those who attend the AGM and who book with the Secretary beforehand.

    Route: Dundee, Cupar via Foodieash, Kemback to St Andrews. Lunch either Cupar or St Andrews.

    David Martin will lead this ride.

    Meet at 10:00 Clatto Reservoir car park for a gentle, somewhat off road, exploration of the railways of Strathmartine.

    This would be an ideal 'bring a newcomer' ride and is quite short being only around 10-15 miles.
    For a longer ride, there will be an extension for those who wish to the Speckled Hen at Tealing for eats.

    Ride from Perth
    Perth to Crieff and back approx 35 miles.
    A gentle ride on quiet roads with great views over the rolling Perthshire hills.
    Meet at 10 am at the Broxden roundabout P&R, (Free Parking) on the A9. Short-cut to the A85 Crieff road. Follow minor road north of A85 to Crieff, taking in waterfalls & the Famous Grouse distillery. Cafe stop in Crieff, OR picnic in Glenturret. Follow minor road south of A85 back to Perth, Tea & Scones at Jane's house, short-cut back to Broxden. 3-4 hours. Leader: Jane 

    Saturday 18 July 2009  Off-road event

    Start: 09:00 from Dykehead, 5 miles north of Kirriemuir on B955. Car parking is available opposite the Royal Jubilee Arms Hotel. The hotel bar should be open from midday. This will be a challenging day in the hills.This is a different route from ride in 2006. Must be self-sufficient. 30 miles, of which most are off-road but it is possible to reduce the off-road section on the return.     Ride from Dundee.
    Meet Camperdown Gates (entrance to Ice rink, etc) at 09:00.
    Longer run with earlier start to Dunkeld via Loch Lowes and lunch stop at Kate's in Birnam (cyclist friendly).  Mileage is about 50 miles from Camperdown gates.

    Ride from Dundee.
    Meet Camperdown Gates (entrance to Ice rink, etc) at 10:00.
    Back roads to Dronley then on to Newtyle.
    West and north to Alyth via Ardler (stop for refreshments if required), western road around Hill of Alyth to Reekie Linn and on to Peel farm for lunch (Distance travelled 23 miles)
      Return by Kingoldrum to Kirriemuir.then south to Glamis
    and so to Tealing by way of Lumley Den. At Tealing some people may want to find their own way home ( distance to this point 44 miles)
    the remainder may wish to take this route back to Camperdown:-. West to South Balluderon
    then south to Bridgefoot and on past Templeton woods to Camperdown. (total distance 52 miles)

    Cycle ride 30 May 2009

    Dundee Railway Heritage ride Meet Discovery Point at 10:00 for 10:30 start for informative Railway ride which David Martin will lead. It will only be about 11 miles but will take 2 hours with frequent stops to point out historical remains. David has done a lot of research into this project so I hope you will support him. Bring food and drink but there is likely to be a stop at the end of the ride at the new Bridgeview Carriage Restaurant which is by the free parking area on Riverside Drive.

    Meet Discovery Point, Dundee at 10:00 for 10:30 start to cycle round the Tay. Refreshments at Bridge of Earn Farm shop.

    Meet 10:00 for 10:00 departure at Camperdown Park (entrance to ice rink, etc)
    Camperdown gates, Dronley, Thriepley, Lundie then over to Kinnaird with a lunch stop at Errol Station, return by lower carse road. Total distance 35miles approx.
      If weather dictates a different route we can decide on the day.  Leader: Gavin

    Edzell Week-end - 20 - 22 February.

    This was a great success. 24 members from Tayside, Fife and Lothians stayed for the week-end and 2 others for part. The weather was great and cycling was good.
