CTC Tayside

Newsletter December 2007

The 2008 AGM took place at Meigle, which was a convenient venue for many in Tayside. Unfortunately the wet and stormy weather meant only the hardy ones arrived by bike! Quite a number met for lunch in the Joiner’s Coffee Shop before moving across the road for the AGM.

Chairman
Tom Ward was thanked for his three years in office and David Henderson was appointed. David lives in Longforgan, has a young family and has taken part in some Audax rides this year. Occasionally he is able to take part in a Friday ride from Forfar if he juggles his day job!

Other Committee members
Briall Coull, Etta Grewar and myself were re-elected as Treasurer, Welfare Officer and Secretary respectively.

Dundee Rides
These will continue on the last Saturday of each month with provision where possible for a long and short ride suitable for newcomers or families. Thanks to all those who have led and organised rides during the past year.

Saturday 29 November 2008
Meet 10:00 for 10:30 at Discovery Point. Ron or I will lead. Destination will depend on the wind direction on the day and it may be possible to have a long and short ride.

Saturday 27 December 2008

Meet 10:30 at Camperdown Park (the east gate by cinema / ice rink entrance). To cycle the Green Circular with mulled wine and mince pies en route.

Saturday 31 January 2009   David Henderson will lead

Help wanted!
To help with the planning of rides and the programme of rendez-vous rides, could you please let me know of  tearooms / cafes in your area together with their opening hours on Saturdays and Sundays?

Rendez-vous rides
We hope to arrange a programme of rides throughout Tayside for next year and need your help. The programme will be made up of meets either in cafes, members’ houses, picnic sites or Inns for a prearranged lunch stop. Riders -make their own way there by a route of their choice and at a pace they find suitable. Obviously YOU decide how far and how fast you wish to cycle. Hopefully, we will enjoy a convivial lunch together and then make our way home, either in small groups or separately if preferred. If the meet is at a member’s house, then we ask that they provide teas and coffees and are free to impose a charge, those visiting bring their packed lunch. If you would like to host or know of a suitable venue, please let me know. You are free to give one or more dates. It does not matter whether it is a Saturday or Sunday.

Flyers
At the AGM it was decided that general flyers advertising forthcoming rides would be distributed to bike shops, libraries and other notice boards. If you would be interested in producing the flyer or be able to print and distribute please let me know.
